Meeting at Night

The gray sea and the long black land；

And the yellow half-moon large and low；

And the startled little waves that leap

In fiery ringlets from their sleep,

As I gain the cove with pushing prow,

And quench its speed i’ the slushy sand．

Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach

Three fields to cross till a farm appears；

A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch

And blue spurt of a lighted match,

And a voice less loud, thro’ its joys and fears,

Than the two hearts beating each to each!

夜會

長岸黑黝黝，

羅伯特·布朗寧(Robert Browning 1812—1889)英國詩人 詩的標題為 “夜會”,可是通篇都只是描述前去赴約的過程,直到最後也未直接顯示 “會面” 的鏡頭。但詩的'末行 “the two hearts beating each to each (兩顆心相對著跳動)” 這朦朧的一筆卻間接地點明瞭夜會的高潮。譯作結尾借景言情,與原作異曲同工。
