有人說：“去打麻將了。”
有人說：“去唱歌了。”
可有人說：“去學英語了。”
我想前兩個都可能而第三個絕對不可能，因為爺爺從來未學過英語。我把我聽說的`事，和我的想法都告訴了我奶奶，奶奶和我的想法一樣。
一天，爺爺從外面回來，奶奶大聲對爺爺說：“你這個死老頭，又到哪鬼混去了。”

我一反衝上去說：“爺爺，我不該這樣對你。”
於是我把這幾天的事情告訴了爺爺，爺爺大笑說：“傻孩子，有句俗話說得好——活到老學到老，如果我天天沉迷在麻將之中還得了啊！於是就讓王叔叔教我學英語了。”

Legendsabout the origin of this festivity abound. One holds that over 3,000 years agosacrificial rites called La (臘) were held in the twelfth lunar monthwhen people offered up their preys to the gods of heaven and earth.
關於這個節日的起源有很多種說法。有一種說法是大約3000年前，一種祭祀儀式叫做“臘”，會在農曆十二月舉行。人們向天上和地下的神獻出他們的'獵物。
The Chinesecharacters for prey (獵) and the twelfth month (臘 La) were interchangeable then, and ever since La has been used torefer to both. Since the festival was held on the eighth day of the Last month,people later appended the number eight (ba in Chinese), giving us the currentLaba.
