beat/ win/ defeat

Ⅰ. beat 打贏戰勝。用於比賽時，後接賓語是戰勝對手，表示贏了某人。如：

① Li Lei beat all the runners in the 100-metre race.

李磊在百米賽跑中贏了所有的對手。

② We are sure to beat them.

我們肯定會贏他們。

Ⅱ. win 贏得；獲勝， 用作及物動詞，後接賓語是表示某種比賽的名詞或戰爭，而不是參加比賽的'對手。如：

① We won the basketball game.

我們贏得了籃球賽。

② Who won the race?

誰贏得了賽跑？

Ⅲ. defeat 戰勝；贏得與win 一樣，較正式，後接賓語時與beat一樣，是表示人或代表群體的名詞或代詞，間或接表事物的名詞或代詞。 如：

Our class defeated / beat theirs in the basket-ball match yesterday.

昨天我們班在籃球賽中贏了他們班。

because/ because of

Ⅰ. because 是連詞，後接句子， 是主句的直接原因，常用來回答由why 引導的特殊疑問句。如：

① Because he is ill, he is not here today.

因為他病了，所以今天沒來。

② --Why are you in a hurry?
