(一)背景介紹

英國中學教育制度

英國教育制度素來在學術品質與提供完善照顧方面享有盛名。英國針對五歲到十六歲的小孩實施義務教育而父母有責任讓子女按時上學。英國有百分之九十的兒童上公立學校,其經費完全來自政府。剩下的百分之十則上私立學校,這些學校不拿政府的經費。

英國教育系統包括五部份:學前教育:五歲以下學童。五歲以下的兒童沒有義務教育。雖然有些地區的地方教育當局辦有學前教育課程,但是大多數的小孩上私立學校或是由父母或熱心人士組織所辦的學前教育班。初等教育:五歲至十二歲之間學童(某些情況包括十二歲學童)。國小常分為幼年部和少年部,有些地區則採用三級制,區分為初級、中級和高階國小,結業年限分別是八或九歲和十二或十三歲。中等教育:十一歲(或十二歲)至十八歲的學生。一般認為私立國小是幫助學生準備私立中學入學考試的預備學校。這些預備學校通常招收七歲到十三歲的學生,但有些則附招年齡較小的小孩之先修部。公立中學學生入學年齡為十一或十二歲,而最低離校年紀則為十六歲;那時學生就可以參加中等教育普通證書(GCSE)考試。擴充教育:十六歲以上義務教育後學生。各類學術或職業訓練課程。高等教育:包括大學部準備課程。
