He said he had never seen such an exciting match before.

句中such是形容詞,意思是"這樣,那樣",加強語氣,表示驚奇的情緒,跟形容詞連用。such an exciting match 相當於so exciting a match (這麼激動的比賽)。如:

It was such a lovely day.相當於It was so lovely a day.

I have never seen such a large one. 相當於I have never seen so large a one .

1. Do you like watching or playing football?

本句是選擇疑問句,選擇疑問句回答方式如下:

(1)"What would you like to have, coffee, tea or milk?" "None".

(1)deserve應該得到、值得,其後可帶名詞或不定式作賓語。

例:Good work deserves good pay. 好的工作應得好的報酬。

(2)deserve不能用於進行時態;deserving是個形容詞,解釋"值得的",常與of連用。

例:be deserving of sympathy 值得同情。

4. His excellent shot went low to the left of the girls' goal.

句中low是副詞,意思是"低下地,近地平線地"。如:

The sun sank low.

He spoke low just now.

三、本單元詞語辨析

1. beat ,win和hit的區別:

beat 是動詞,意思是"連續地打; 打敗; 敲打"。beat後可接人或隊名。意思是"擊敗對手。"如:

I can beat you at swimming.

win意思是"贏得某個專案",後面常接"match, game"。如:

He won a game. 他勝一局。

We won a match. 我們比賽得勝。

hit意思是"擊中"(有時可表示"打一下")。如:

The mother hit her child out of anger. 媽媽生氣,打了她孩子一下。

2. keep doing和keep on doing

keep doing側重表示"持續不停地做某事"或"持續某種狀態"。如:

The girl kept crying all the time. 那個女孩一直在哭。

The baby kept sleeping about four hours. 這個嬰兒連續睡了大約四個小時。

keep on doing 表示"總不斷做某事",不表示靜止狀態。不能與sitting、sleeping、lying、standing這類詞連用。如:

It kept on raining for seven days.

Don't keep on asking such silly questions.

3. get, turn, become

這三個詞都可作系動詞用,表示狀態的變化,後跟表語,但三個詞的用法稍有不同。

get強調情感、氣候和環境的變化;turn強調色彩的變化;而become則

強調職務、職稱等的變化。如:

(1)The days are getting shorter and shorter in winter.

 冬天的白天越來越短。

(2)She couldn't answer the question and her face turned red.

 她回答不出問題,臉紅了。

(3)-- How long have you been a teacher?-- For ten years.

 你當老師有多長時間了?十年了。

 When did you become a teacher? - Ten years ago.

 你什麼時候當的老師?十年前。

四、單元語法重點

本單元的語法繼續講解過去完成時的用法,需要強調的一點就是過去完成時的動作須在過去某一時間以前發生,簡單地說就是“過去的過去”。過去完成時是一個相對時態,它不能離開過去某一時間而獨立存在。因此,使用過去完成時就必須有過去某一時間不可。如何表示過去某一時間,有兩種情況:

(1)明顯地在句中表示過去某一時間。例如:

By the end of that year he had collected more than a thousand foreign stamps.

到那年年底,他已收集了一千多張外國郵票。

When we got there the football match had already started.我們到那兒時,足球比賽已經開始了。

(2)很多情況下句中沒有明顯的時間狀語,過去的時間由上下文表示出來。例如:

They fulfilled the plan earlier than they had expected.他們的計劃完成得比預料的早。

注意:(1)在包含when, as soon as, before, after, until, now that等連詞的複合句中,如果主句謂語和從句謂語表示的過去動作是在不同時間發生,那麼先發生的動作通常需用過去完成時。但如果兩個動作緊接著發生,特別是在包含before 和after的複合句中,則常常不用過去完成時,而用過去時。例如:

After he said good-bye to me, he left the city. 和我告別後,他就離開了這座城市。

(2)Intend, hope, plan, mean, want, think等動詞的過去完成時可用來表示一個本打算做而沒有做的事。例如:

I had intended to come over to see you last night, but someone called me and I couldn’t get away.

昨晚本想來看你的,但有人來找,脫不開身。
