After 1500 days since the 2002 world cup finals finished the host country Germany opened the 2006 world cup with an exciting win over Costa game produced 3 goals in the first 17 minutes,Phillip Lahm the new German full back fired the home team in front after only 5 o Wanchope drew Costa Rica level 6 minutes later and then Miroslav Klose put them the Germans back in e celebrating his 28Th birthday scored his 2ND goal and Germany‘s 3rd after 61 o wanchope scored again for Costa Rica to make the final 20 minutes a very nervous time for the Germans but with 4 minutes to go Fring hit an unstoppable shot from 30 metres out to give Germany the start to the tournament they wanted.

The Germans made the best possible start to the World Cup with 3 points and 4 the Germans were caught very square at the back by Costa Rica who scored twice from the same mistakes.I‘m sure better teams will have taken that on board and the Germans could be in real trouble against better opposition.

The Germans will have to make changes to in there defensive play if they want to go all the way in this World Cup.

Best player Torsten Frings

The goal he scored will be in the running for goal of the tournament it was a fantastic shot from 30 metres into the corner of the net which gave the keeper no chance .

In the other game Ecuador caused a mild upset by beating Poland 2 goals to nil and should join Germany as favorites to go into the second round in there group.I can‘t see Costa Rica or Poland beating these 2 teams andgoing any further in this World Cup.

Now for the big game coming up,as a former English football player i will be on the edge of my seat watching and supporting the England team against Paraguay.

This is the best team England have sent to a World Cup since they won it in 1966 when a very good friend of mine Bobby Moore was captain of the England side that beat Germany at Wembley.
